历史沿革
小榄有着悠久的历史和深厚的人文底蕴，因小榄人喜爱养菊、赏菊，且每年有举办菊花欣赏会的传统，被誉为“菊城”。明代礼部尚书李孙宸曾撰诗云“岁岁菊花看不尽，诗坛酌酒尝花村”。
清嘉庆甲戌年（1814年）举办了第一届菊花大会，以后每隔60年举办一届大型的菊花盛会。
1994年举办的第四届甲戌菊花大会陈展菊花82万盆，布展10平方公里，吸引了海内外宾客600多万人次观赏。
2004年11月，为纪念第四届甲戌菊花大会十周年举办的小榄镇（甲申）菊花文化艺术欣赏会在布展和菊艺上都有新的突破，最大的一棵单株立菊达45圈6211朵花。高23.26米的赏菊楼和单株嫁接247个品种的大立菊列入吉尼斯世界纪录大全。国家文化部授予小榄“中国菊花文化艺术之乡”称号；
2006年初，“小榄菊花会”被评为首批“国家非物质文化遗产”代表作。
2007年11月，小榄镇将举办“第九届中国（中山小榄）菊花展览会”，进一步弘扬和发展传统的菊花文化艺术。
