新概念第2册49课中一个分词作状语问题.
Tired of sleeping on the floor,a young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed.
书上解释说：省略了现在分词being,作原因状语.
我的疑问是,直接不就是过去分词作状语嘛,难道这样理解不对嘛?为什么还要绕个弯按现在分词短语理解啊?

比如说 surprised by his words,i smilenced.这样的句子
我们理解的时候，好像也是按过去分词去理解的吧。

Answer:这里"tired" 虽然形似过去分词,但做的却是形容词.

he was tired of sleeping on the floor.
可以看出:be tired of ...厌烦...
如果是过去分词那么就表被动,可这里显然不是,所以当简化成非谓语形式做原因状语时只能理解成" being tired of "

这里surprised 是过去分词 (非谓语形式的过去分词本身表被动,这是为什么上面LZ所例句不能单纯的把"tired"看成是过去分词的原因)
还原成状语为：
As I was surprised by his words.
