Will I always fight with my parents like I do now?
Growing up I felt like my parents just didn’t understand me.They knew nothing,it was so frustrating,they just couldn’t relate to the problems that I faced!How could they?They grew up in such different circumstances from mine:different age,different school,and different problems.They couldn’t possibly understand what I had to deal with!And so we would fight very often.It might be about homework,or girlfriends or household chores or pocket money.They would want me to do one thing,and I would want to do another,and they just couldn’t understand that they were wrong!
As I got older,though,a funny thing would happen.We would still fight—I wanted to lelearn German,but they wanted me to learn Chinese.But sometimes I would think about times in the past when we had fought,and what I would do if I were in the same situation again.I often think that,actually,my parents were right.All of a sudden,my parents did not seem as silly as I had thought—all those fights we had,now seem like(=as if) they saved me a lot of bad decisions over my teenage years!
So I still fight with my parents now—I want to stay in Shanghai and they want me to go back to Australia!But I wonder,in a few years’time,will I realize that they were right?
