这句话如果是下面这样子的吧就比较好解释了：

前面是个被动语态,主动句意思应该是我们降低了产品价格,the competition 可以指竞争对手,比较的是我们和竞争对手,而不是产品和竞争对手相比较.
如果不加the,competition所指为比赛、竞争,语句不通
