Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?The best way to learn about a foreign country is reading newspaper and magazines.Use specific reasons and details to explain it.
Knowledge about foreign countries becomes more accessible for people in the information era.Among many effective ways of being familiar with a foreign country,such as studying in a foreign university,going for a trip and having foreign friends,is reading newspaper and magazines,which from my perspective,is the best way to learn about a foreign country.
Reading newspaper and magazines is better than studying in a foreign university,since the prices of newspaper and magazines are much lower than the tuition fee of a foreign school.A piece of newspaper may only cost us some cents while magazine may only value several dollars.For instance,a kind of magazine named America Scan is sold at the price of 10 yuan in China mainland.A lot of knowledge can be gained by a reader who pays 10 yuan for it.In contrast,the tuition fee for an oversea student in the United States may be as high as 15,000 dollars per year.Students will hesitate to apply for a place in foreign university without enough family support.So low prices make the newspaper and magazines superior than studying abroad.
Reading newspaper and magazines is better than visiting a foreign country,since reading newspaper and magazines can be kept as a habit in long run.For many people,reading is a life-long hobby.They may make notes on newspaper and collect every issue of a certain magazine,by doing which they are able to refer to the newspaper and magazines when they need to write something about a foreign country.On the contrary,a travel to a foreign country may be transitory,usually one or two weeks,giving the tourists a superficial understanding of that country,which make the journey pale in learning about a foreign country compared with reading newspaper and magazines.
Reading newspaper and magazines is better than having foreign friends,for the contents in newspaper and magazines are more objective.Normally,different authors show their special ideas in their articles and therefore,we may find the opinions in newspaper more objective by comparing and thinking.For example,in order to obtain an unbiased comment of some scandals,such as misgovern,suppression and corrpution,in a foreign country,we have to rely on varied kinds of newspapers and magazines.Words from foreign friends seem less convincing and trustworthy because they may argue for their own countries,preventing us from knowing the true news,which make having foreign friends not so advisable when we want to learn about a foreign country.
In sum,reading newspaper and magazines is better than three other ways which has been widely considered as effective methods to learn about a foreign country including studying aboad,going for a travel and making foreign friends,so reading newspaper and magazines is the best way.(468 words)
