Taoran Pavilion Park General Introduction
Taoran Pavilion Park is located in the south of Beijing's Xuanwu District.It covers 59 hectares out of which 17 hectares water surface .The park was built in 1952,and it is the first modern landscape Architelture after the foundation of the P.R.C.There aer famous historical sites of Beinjing strong cultural atmosphere ,and revolutionary history makd it a famous resort attracting numerous visitors .
In 1695(Qing Dynasty),a senior official of the central govemment ordered to build a pavilion to the west of the Mercy Nunnery and named it "Taoran"quoted from a poem of Bai Ju-yi,one of the greatest poets in TangDynasty .literaties liked the Pavilion very much,and those who lived in other provinces must are here when they cameto Beinjing.It has been well-known and had been a famous site of Beijing with 200year of Qing Dynasty.
Surrounding Taoran Pavilion were many famous historical sites .To the northwest of the pavilion was Dragon Tree Temple,which was as famous as Taoran Pavilion in late Qing Dynasty and many cele brities visited here .Others were Bladk Dragon Pool,King Dragon Pavilion,Nezha Temple,Plun Blossom Garden,and Zu Garden that were located to the east or west respectively.To the north was Yao Tai Tea house,and to the mortheast were fragrant Tomb and so on ¡.Most of these historical sites had a longer history than Taoran Pavilion,and evenearlier than the Mercy Nuneery .Famous Poems and calligraphers often came here and left many famous poems and calligraphy works.
Taoran Pavilion also had a splendid revolutionary history in morden times,especially in the period of "May fourth Movement".The founders and leaders of cpc like li pa zhao,Mao ze Dong,and zhou En Lai came here to hold revolutionary activitse .On January 18,1920,revolutionaries Mao Ze Dong ,Dens zhong xia and members of Assist society gathered here to discuss a plan how to struggle against the Hunan warlord zhang Jing yao.Photographs of remembrance were taken risht under this old pagodatree .On August 16th ,1920,by members of the conscious society led by comrade zhou Enlaitogethar with delegacy of young chine society ,The Dawn society,the humanitarion society and the youth Group of mutual help,issues regarding to the patriotic movement ,and a united struggle after the "may 4th"movement .Between Kuly and August,1921,a member of the young china society chen yu sheng's wife died ,and buried here,and rent two rwms in the name of taking care of the grave,which were actually used as a place to engage secret revolutionary activities by comrades of deng zhongxia,YunDaiying,and GaoJunyu in the period between 1921-1923.Foday Taoran pavilion park has become more and more beautiful with the modernization of BeiJing.The layout of the park is very beautiful .
The pavilion is located on a small is land ,which is the center of other scenery spots.The island is covered with luxuriant vegetation,and on the bank are pavilion and long corridors .Beside Taoran Pavilion ,Jingqiu hill and yan tou hill are also on the mid-late is land .At the south foot of Jingqiu hill is the "Rose hill",which are the ruins of Fragrant Tomb and parrot Tomb .In the tranquil pine woods is the tombs of Gao Jun-yu and shi ping-Mei the early revolutionists of cpc.
Cathay pavillon Garden is a "garden in garden"inside Taoran Pavilion park ,It was built in 1985,Many famous gardens in china were imitated to build here,in cladding "zuiweg pavilion" "lan pavilion".Echi Tablet Pavilion "canglang pavilion" and others .It is about more than 10 famous pavilions in this small garden .
