初三英语阅读
A few days before my going away,my father handed me a piece of paper.Surprised,I took the paper to my room.In it there were 29 mottoes. The first few were:
“Keep change in your pockets.”“Don’t pick up strange girls. You may be sorry.”
“Don’t climb mountains. You might be hurt.”
It was always that way with Dad.I remember Dad driving us to school, giving the same lecture every morning:“Boy,you’re getting the tools of your trade.Get them now or you’ll be like a carpenter without his tools-----you won’t be able to make a living.” But I day-dreamed my way through classes. In the schoolyard,I was in a lot of fights.
However,Dad’s most important lessons were the ones he never expressed in words. He worked hard to pay for everything we needed,he took care of my mother’s family---her sister Virgiebelle and Virgiebelle’s daughter Dolie.
My father’s world was filled with big talkers. They’d often come to my house. Many had worked for my father and were looking forward to borrowing money from him.Once Dad said to our mother,“When I came home last night,Anna’s little girl was very interested in Norman’s bicycle, and I gave it to her.” Anna was our mother’s helper.Dad bought me another in place of that.
When Frank got out of prison,Dad took him in.Dad was kind-hearted but not fool. After a few months, when Frank had made no progress in getting a job,Dad checked the basement bar.Bottles were lying here and there.Frank was soon gone from our life.A year later he was wanted for stealing.
选择 From the passage we know that at school_____.
A the writer always did as his father hoped
B the writer didn't follow his father's advice.
C the Dad knew his son did well at school
D the Dad wanted his son to be a carpenter
